FAQ for Kod i ferien

Below we have tried to answer different questions that may occur in relation to Kod i ferien. Should you have any questions not on the list, please comment or send an email to opensource@digst.dk - then we will update the list. 

  • Who may participate?
    All students enrolled in a higher education course in Denmark may apply. In the application, the student must be able to document that he/she is enrolled and study active. Such documentation may be obtained at the study administration.
  • Is it a competition or a job posting? 
    It is not a competition. It is more like a summer job posting.
  • Will I get paid? 
    If you do your job, then yes. You enter an agreement on working with a specific project for a fixed fee.
  • How do I apply?
    Send an email, carrier pigeon or the like. For further information, read Application.
  • Where do I work?
    That's up to you. We will, however, try to find somewhere for you to sit.
  • Is it possible to work together with others?
    Yes, and you may split your earnings or apply seperately and in your application state that you will be working together.
  • Is the income taxable?
    Yes. Those students hired will be informed of the payment process.
  • Will I be supervised during the proces?
    You are expected to inform about your progress on Digitalisér.dk and, if asked,  report to the Agency of Digitisation.
  • Do I get free pizza and soft drinks?
    Nope. Buy it yourself! 
  • When do I apply?
    Not later than midnight June 24th, see Application
  • When am I told if I'm hired?
    June 29th 2012
  • Does payment have any relevance to my SU (The Danish students' Grants and Loans Scheme)?
    That depends on your income. Payment is taxable and there deducted your earnings ceiling.
  • When do I get paid?
    When Kod i ferien official ends in September.
  • Will anyone provide me with computer, software, etc.?
    Probably not. Those things are your own responsibility. Therefore, it is important for you to ensure that you have access to e.g. platforms, components etc., to get the job done.
  • Is it possible for me to participate if I am already employed at the Agency for Digitisation?
    Stop asking stupid questions! Get back into your whale, Jonas!
  • I have an idea, but it is not based on a project from the Software Exchange. What do I do?
    No worries! It is, however, required that you in such case get approval from a public authority stating their interest in your idea. 
  • Does my education have to be related to IT for me to participate?
    No, it is not a requirement. But you have to be a student and validate your skills in your application.
  • I have an idea but I don't know if it's too far out?
    Then contact us and have a chat before you apply!
  • I will begin my study on September 1st. Can I apply for Kod i ferien?
    Unfortunately not.
  • I'm enrolled in a higher education course, not a university. Can I participate? 
    Sure! The initiative is for all students enrolled in a higher education course.
  • I am a ph.d.-student. Can I participate? 
    Unfortunately not. Ph.D.-students are not considered to be students.
  • I am newly educated but haven't got a job yet. Can I participate?
    Unfortunately not.
  • When is the initiative taking place? 
    If you are hired, you may work between June 28th and August 30th.
  • WHAT?! You want me to work for more than two months?!
    No, you are expected to work for roughly a month full-time during that period.
